Safari with Purpose: Conservation & Community

A Safari That Gives Back

Safari with Purpose:

Conservation & Community

  • Wildlife Protection: Safeguarding Hwange & Matobo Hills

Zimbabwe’s wildlife faces increasing threats from habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and poaching. Amalinda Safari Collection is actively involved in:

Anti-Poaching Efforts: We support rangers and conservation teams in both Matobo Hills and Hwange National Park, funding patrols and surveillance to combat poaching. In Hwange, this includes efforts to protect large elephant herds from ivory poachers, while in Matobo, conservation efforts focus on protecting endangered species like rhinos.

Waterhole Management in Hwange: Wildlife survival in Hwange depends on man-made waterholes, as the park lacks permanent rivers. We help maintain these vital lifelines by funding boreholes and solar-powered pumps, ensuring animals have access to water year-round.

Habitat Restoration: Working with local communities, we help prevent deforestation and soil erosion around protected areas by supporting sustainable land use and reforestation initiatives.

  • Rhino Conservation: Preserving Zimbabwe’s Last Stronghold

Matobo Hills is home to one of the last remaining populations of both black and white rhinos in Zimbabwe. These prehistoric giants are under constant threat from poaching, making conservation efforts essential to their survival. Amalinda Safari Collection, through Mother Africa Trust, is committed to:

Funding Anti-Poaching Patrols: We provide financial support to rhino monitoring teams who track and protect these critically endangered animals.

Supporting Rhino Conservation Education: By engaging local schools and communities, we raise awareness about the importance of rhino conservation, ensuring that future generations become custodians of Zimbabwe’s wildlife.

Exclusive Rhino Tracking Safaris: Our guests have the rare opportunity to participate in guided rhino tracking experiences, led by expert conservationists. These encounters not only provide life-changing wildlife moments but also directly support rhino protection efforts.

  • Community Empowerment: Investing in People

Sustainable tourism isn’t just about wildlife—it’s about uplifting the communities that coexist with these landscapes. Mother Africa Trust works on long-term, grassroots projects designed to create lasting impact:

Education & School Support: We fund local schools, providing supplies, scholarships, and teacher salaries, ensuring that children in rural areas receive quality education and future opportunities.

Healthcare Access: Many villages surrounding Hwange and Matobo have limited access to medical care. We support mobile health clinics and local healthcare initiatives, ensuring that communities receive essential medical services.

Women’s Empowerment & Livelihoods: Through skills training and sustainable tourism initiatives, we help local women become financially independent, whether through craft production, conservation jobs, or ecotourism projects.

Fantastic

My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon in September at Ivory Lodge and it was fantastic. The location is glorious, with animals roaming right up to the fence around the camp - we had a herd of buffalo sleep by us one night. The rooms are very comfy and the staff are amazing; when they found out it was our honeymoon, on our last night they set up a special table for us by the pool for dinner, threw in a bottle of fizz and even made us a cake, it was very special. The chefs do wonders with the food and Zeb was the most brilliant guide. A big thumbs up!

Totally Amazing!

We stayed here as part of a tour. After we arrived and went to our cabins, my wife and I noticed a few elephants walking in the direction of the main lodge. We went up to the lodge and its back veranda and found ourselves in the midst of hundreds of elephants, some no more than 25 feet away. We watched them drink, feed, and play for over an hour before they started heading back to the woods. We had a similar experience with Cape Buffalo a couple of days later.

On the more pedestrian side, the lodge was also excellent. Great service, friendly people, excellent food, and nice accommodations. Very highly recommended.
