Khulu Bush Camp
a wild-life experience
Khulu bush camp
Experience the epitome of luxury and adventure at Khulu Bush Camp, a quintessential safari lodge on the boundary of Hwange National Park. Surrounded by awe-inspiring natural beauty, Khulu Bush Camp offers a truly unforgettable safari experience that captures the essence of Africa's timeless wonder.
As the smaller and more intimate sister lodge to Ivory Lodge, Khulu Bush Camp provides an unparalleled sense of seclusion and remoteness in the heart of the African wilderness. It pays homage to Cedric Wilde, one of the Director’s of the Amalinda Safari Collection, after whom the camp is named. Affectionately referred to as "Khulu," meaning "grandfather" in the local community, Cedric himself often joins guests around the campfire, sharing captivating stories and strumming old country tunes.
Why we love it
One of the camp's unique features is its harmonious blend of luxurious accommodation and traditional hospitality. Overlooking an ancient riverbed, known as a "vlei," Khulu Bush Camp offers a front-row seat to witness The Presidential herd of Elephants and the extraordinary diversity of wildlife and birdlife that thrives on our private concession
Enjoy our refreshing swimming pool, photography hide, or the mesmerizing views of the watering hole from our two fireplaces. Indulge in the comfort of one of our nine charming rooms, including two luxurious suites, which have inside and outside showers, their own views of the watering hole. Each complimented with stocked bar fridges and coffee stations.
Location
Hwange
Our exceptional 15,000-acre private concession is located just outside the boundaries of Hwange National Park, offering an unparalleled and awe-inspiring wilderness experience. With a deliberate focus on limited guest numbers, we provide personalized attention and an unmatched sense of exclusivity. As stewards of a private concession, we are dedicated to upholding responsible and sustainable tourism practices that minimise environmental impact while actively contributing to conservation efforts and the well-being of local communities.
Guests staying with us enjoy the freedom to explore the largest private concession in all of Hwange, take day trips into the park and actively participate in our conservation and community initiatives in the surrounding areas. Rest assured, being outside the National Park doesn't compromise your wildlife encounters; it only enhances them. You'll have the chance to be among the select few vehicles to witness the incredible sightings our concession has to offer. From herds of over 500 buffalo that bring in clouds of “Dust and Drama” on The Dete Vlei to family groups of elephants, solitary bulls, and a diverse array of predators including lions, cheetahs, leopards, painted dogs, hyenas, jackals, and over 300 bird species.

Conservation & Community
Take your safari to a deeper level of understanding and appreciation of Africa’s wild spaces and culture. We have tailor-made “Purpose Driven Safaris" for groups and families. Projects
Morning & Evening
Set out at the break of dawn when animals are most active, whether venturing into the renowned Hwange National Park or exploring our expansive private 15,000-acre concession. The opportunity to catch cats on the hunt is high in the light of early morning.
Evening drives set out just before golden hour, another time of day when animals are most active. Huge herds of elephants and buffalo can usually be found near the watering holes as the sun sets.
At the beginning of each drive, your guide will enquire if you have any special interests and do their best to accommodate. You’ll stop for tea and coffee on morning drives, and sundowners on evening drives. When driving on our private concession, you’ll also embark on a night drive where you may spot civets, genets, bat eared foxes, hyenas and other nocturnal creatures.
Game Drives
Painted Dog
Zimbabwe is a stronghold for African Painted Dogs and boasts one of the largest populations of this endangered species. Visit the Hwange Research Centre to learn more about these often misunderstood animals, and the efforts underway for their conservation, rehabilitation and research. There is no entry fee charged but the program kindly asks visitors to either buy something from the curio shop with proceeds going to the program or welcomes any donations.
